How Atia’s Legacy builds the next 10 years of Axie Infinity

With its open-world MMORPG Atia’s Legacy entering its first test on mobile for 1,000 lucky players, Sky Mavis founders Jeff Zirlin and Trung Nguyen have been laying out their wider plans for the future Axie Infinity ecosystem.

In a blog post entitled Axie Infinity’s Next Decade, the pair discuss their vision for “a walkable open-world where we could meet our friends … a place to unleash the full economic and social potential of our axies”.

They also answer some questions about the game and their plans for its development.

These include details of how Atia’s Legacy could link with existing Axie Infinity assets, such as how the evolution of Axie characters in terms of their AXP levels and evolved parts could make them more powerful in terms of defeating dungeons. Combat is expected to be a big component in Atia’s Legacy.

It’s also expected that there will be specific areas available for the most rare Mystic Axies, perhaps including the ability to gain exclusive cosmetics and other in-game assets, or the ability to have a higher drop rate percentage in gacha situations.

A key component of Axie Infinity that currently has little utility is its land NFTs, which are something that Atia’s Legacy has big plans for, notably in terms of guild-based metagame features such as special dungeons, buildings and farming abilities.

However, the launch of Atia’s Legacy isn’t just about giving existing NFTs and the AXS token more utility. It will also provide an opportunity to launch new assets, with both new tokens and NFTs expected.

And while all of this positioning ensures Atia’s Legacy should be a compelling experience for existing and lapsed Axie players, Sky Mavis also hopes that it will provide an opportunity to expand the audience.

“We’d like to expand to users on the fringes of web3 and even web2 by giving them easy onramping opportunities through Atia’s Legacy. Atia’s Legacy is the kind of game you should be able to show your mom and normie friends,” the co-founders point out.
